The Rider

Hey You, Cool It!

There’s nothing worse than trying to suck down warm Gatorade in the midst of a ride. Even one of those “fierce” flavors (whatever that means).

They're worth it!

This thought raced through my mind recently as I tried to do exactly this on a 90-degree day and declared: “Enough! It’s time to give in and buy a couple of insulated water bottles.”

Sure, they cost about $10 bucks each, and I’m cheap, but they’re well worth it and I’m glad I got them. Totally glad.

What I like to do is fill them halfway with water or Gatorade/Powerade the night before – and freeze them. Top them off before your ride – and this keeps the liquid colder a lot longer. And when you stop midway through a long ride at a convenience store to get more fluid – fill up your empty bottles with ice,  and then pour in what you just bought. Nobody’s said I couldn’t do this – yet.

The ones I got are BPA free. There’s been a lot of debate recently about whether BPA is bad for you – and I’m not taking any chances.
